Looking for an island that still feels like Thailand used to — peaceful, raw, and wonderfully real? Koh Jum, tucked between Krabi and Koh Lanta, is just that kind of place. It’s where laid-back island life takes center stage, and the days drift by slowly under the sun.
Think golden beaches with no footprints, the gentle rhythm of the waves, a hammock in the shade, and sweeping views of Koh Phi Phi glowing on the horizon. No noisy crowds, no overdeveloped beachfront — just quiet corners of paradise waiting to be found.
Often referred to as “unplugged but still plugged in,” Koh Jum offers the rare kind of travel experience that lets you reconnect with nature, with Thai culture, and with yourself.
HOW TO GET TO KOH JUM
Getting to Koh Jum is part of the experience. The island doesn’t have a major port, so access is limited — which keeps the crowds away.
Here’s how to get there:
From Krabi Town or Krabi Airport:
Take a taxi or shuttle to Laem Kruat Pier, then hop on a local boat (about 1 hour) to the northern part of Koh Jum. This is the most direct route if you're coming from the mainland.
From Koh Lanta or Koh Phi Phi (November–April):
Several tourist ferries stop in front of Koh Jum during the high season. You’ll be transferred via longtail boat to your resort. It’s a bit of an adventure, but totally worth it for the views.

Insider Tip : Pack light! You’ll be climbing in and out of longtail boats directly at the beach — high heels and suitcases won’t help here.
WHERE TO STAY: Koh Jum Resort – Teakwood Tranquility with a View
For a truly unforgettable stay, we recommend Koh Jum Resort – a beautiful, quiet hideaway nestled on Ting Rai Bay. This resort blends harmoniously into the jungle-covered hillside, with traditional teakwood bungalows offering some of the best sea views on the island.
Koh Jum is a very small island, and this resort perfectly reflects its peaceful, low-key vibe. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, and nature takes the lead.
Staying in one of the hillside teakwood bungalows is nothing short of stunning – clean and beautifully designed, with floor-to-ceiling windows that open up to the sea and a sweeping view of Koh Phi Phi on the horizon. Every morning feels like waking up inside a postcard.
While the beach at Ting Rai is stunning and the resort is perfect for a restful escape, it’s good to know that dining options are limited at night — most guests dine at their resort. But with food this good and views this beautiful, you won’t mind staying in.
EXPLORING THE ISLAND
Koh Jum is small enough to explore in a day, yet rich in character. Rent a motorbike from your resort and cruise the island's mix of paved village roads and wild jungle paths.
Highlights:
The Villages
Koh Jum has three small villages, each offering a unique slice of island life:
Ban Ko Pu (South): A charming Chinese-Thai village with a more colorful, local feel.
Each village gives insight into the cultural mosaic of Southern Thailand, where life flows gently with the tides.
GOOD TO KNOW!
Koh Jum keeps it simple — and that’s exactly what gives the island its charm. Life moves at a slower pace here, and while infrastructure is minimal, you’ll still find the essentials. Small local shops stock daily necessities, and most resorts provide what you need for a relaxed stay.
That said, nature lovers should come prepared. If the island critters take a liking to you (as they often do), it’s wise to bring a good mosquito repellent — ideally one with DEET.
Insider Tip : Koh Jum is one of a few select islands in Thailand that have no advertised ATM machines or banks and many accommodations and restaurants still operate on a cash-only basis. While credit cards aren’t widely accepted, it’s not a problem if you come prepared. In Ban Koh Jum village, a few local travel agents offer convenient services — they’ll charge your credit card and pay out Thai Baht in cash (typically with a 4-5% service fee). Some shops also exchange Euros or US Dollars.
So yes — contrary to what some outdated guidebooks might say, you can access cash on the island if needed. Just plan ahead, carry some cash, and enjoy the freedom that comes with traveling light and off the grid.
DAY TRIPS & ADVENTURES
For more island magic, hop on a longtail boat tour to explore nearby gems like:
Mosquito Island: Dramatic limestone cliffs and incredible snorkeling.
These trips are perfect for nature lovers and those seeking a taste of the Andaman’s wild beauty.
Koh Jum is not for everyone — and that’s exactly what makes it so special. It’s for travelers, not tourists. For those who seek silence over stimulation, authenticity over artificiality. Whether you're a cultural explorer, a nature enthusiast, or simply someone needing a break from it all — Koh Jum will welcome you with open arms and quiet sunsets.
